I was strolling along the beach when I kicked a big box that was buried in the sand. I stopped for a while and looked around for the owner. The big box looked old and ancient but it was not something like fossils or anything such. I pulled the box out from the sand and opened it up. I was surprised of its content. It was money and loads of money. Immediately, I looked up and around for someone who looks suspicious over anything and I found none. I was in big dilemma of what to do as money is my biggest interest but the money was not mine. After few minutes, I decided to take it home. So I loaded the money into my car’s trunk and drove away from the beach.
Halfway home, something snapped my mind. Automatically, my hands turned the wheel around and get myself drove back to the beach. I took the money out and put it back in the sand where I had found them. I decided to wait for three days for someone to pick it up, whether they are the rightful owner or just simply thieves that are hungry for money. After waiting for three days nervously, I went back to the beach. I walked slowly towards the box and pulled it out carefully. My heart was thumping, anxious of the situation. The money was still there, surprisingly. I took the money as what I had decided three days before. There was a bit of guilt and happy and suspicious every time I was thinking of the money while driving home at that time.
As I arrived, I quickly transferred the money to my basement. I locked the doors and the windows and drew all the curtains. After enough being paranoid, I went down to basement to count the money. The money was a load that it took me about three and a half hours to get it done. It was a total of two million dollars. Even though it has been three days since I first found the money, I never thought of the origins of the money. Whether, it is stolen money or just someone accidently leaves it there and cannot seem to find it. The thought of it might be stolen money made me looked up for any robberies happening in my area around the time I found them. According to the search engine, there was no news of any robberies. Afraid that it might not went public; I called the police station to check whether there was any robbery. As what they told me, no one has reported of losing any money in huge amount.
After the guilt went away, I decided to shower myself with some luxuries and use what I got. I took a few stacks of the money and went shopping spree. I bought a new Louis Vuitton handbag worth of three thousand and five hundred dollars. I bought the trendiest of Jimmy Choo’s heels and it worth of five thousand dollars. I bought bundles of new clothes and treated myself well. I ate fine food for the day at a high-end restaurant and I pampered myself by going to a spa. I manicured my nails and pedicured my toes. I did my hair and some facial treatments and booked a two-seater Porsche. I stayed overnight at an en suite of a famous five star hotel. Booked myself a ticket to Paris for the weekend and spent more money in Paris doing fine things, wearing fine clothes, eating fine foods, staying at fine hotel, buying fine souvenirs for close friends and family. Best of all, I paid everything in cash and do not have to worry about paying later.
When I returned home, my luxury days came to an end when a letter was received. I was shocked of what the letter said. The letter content’s was as below;
“Having a nice day, missy, in Paris? How was Eifel doing? Is it still standing tall or is it tilting just like Pisa does? How was my two million dollars? I am pretty sure that there is still a lot of money left. You only used $874, 396. There should be around 1.1 million left. I would love it if you could return me the money exactly as much as you had found it. No hurry, no worry. I am, indeed, in need of the money but I would not rush you to give it to me now, as in right now. I would give you three days, as much time as you had when you give it a thought whether to take it or leave it. Ah, as you can see on your table top, there is bottle of red liquid. Do not worry, it is certainly not blood but if you have the slightest intention of running away with the money, you family would be prized with a bottle of blood of yours. This is not a threat; it is rather a warm letter.
Love,
Mr Andrew-not.
p/s; my girlfriend said nice job in picking nice Louis Vuitton handbag and Jimmy Choo’s heels. Also, the tops and evening wears you bought, they were terrific and gorgeous. Ah, you can keep all those stuffs but as I said, return me the money, exactly.”
I was shaking as I found out the letter. Even more shaking when I found out that it was not posted to me, but it was delivered by hand. There was no post stamp or my address but there was my full name written on the cover of the envelope. While shaking, my phone beeped. A message came in.
‘Hope you got the letter. Nice scarf and coat, they matched. I will tell you where to drop the money later. – Mr Andrew-not’
I almost cannot hear myself breathing, afraid that he would hear me. I froze and numbed and my brain stopped from thinking. I cannot think of anything at the moment, let alone to think of a good plan to get all the money back within three-day time. My heart almost get me killed being thumped of its nervousness and anxiousness. Then, another message came in.
‘Do not just sit and stare. Get on your feet and start working. Two millions in three days is your goal. You already make it halfway. Cheers for you.’
I was so scared at that time that I peed right there. Realized that I wet myself up, I suddenly opened my eyes and saw my mom was standing next to my bed. It turned out to be just a dream and a nightmare. I thanked Mr Andrew-not for sending me the last message that made me awake. Happily, I jumped out from bed and breathed deeply. “Good job in waking up so early for the first time. Even though you have to wet the bed for that,” mom said. I just smiled gladly to survive the nightmare. “By the way, nice Louis Vuitton you got.”
